FSU Broncos Defeat Claflin 3-1 on Volleyball’s Senior Night

Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville State volleyball team had a tad bit more to celebrate tonight than a 3-1 (25-18, 25-18, 22-25, 25-13) win over CIAA Southern Division opponent Claflin University.

Earlier today, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced Diamond Holmes as this week's Rookie of the Week.

Prior to the start of the match, the Department of Athletics honored two seniors, Bojo Jada and Teeya McLean. McLean received the biggest presentation after her mother traveled from Tocama, Washington to surprise her with the visit. Jada was escorted by her mother and sister.

The Broncos improved to 12-11 overall and 12-4 in conference play with the win. Teeya McLean led the match with 12 kills and seven blocks while Bojo Jade followed with eight. Nakia McKinnie and Ziyanna Canty finished with five service aces each. McKinnie also tallied 32 assists.

Claflin dropped to 4-17 and 4-12 as a new member of the CIAA. Jewell Moody led the Panthers with 11 kills. Vianca Colon Gonzalez finished with 21 assists and Jhi Piper-Murles had 16 digs.

Fayetteville State will travel to Johnson C. Smith on Thursday with the purpose of improving its seeding for the CIAA Championship Tournament. The Broncos will close the regular season on Sunday, November 4th with a 1 pm match against rival Winston-Salem State.
