Fayetteville, NC – Fayetteville State's special teams corps scored 30 points in the Broncos 70-6 run of the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls. FSU improves to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play while JCSU dropped to 1-5 and 1-3 in CIAA play.

"I've been challenging the guys to put together a 60-minute game all year long," said Head Coach Richard Hayes. "You guys see the results. The guys responded, and I am proud of them."

Brandon Smith (Raeford, NC/Hoke County HS) opened the game with a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to set the tone for the Broncos.

"When the ball was kicked, I just knew that I had to set the tone for my team," said Smith. "I was really excited [after the score]. My team was really excited and that made me pump up a little more."

Smith returned two kickoffs last season for touchdowns. The 99-yard return is now a career best.

After an early score in the second quarter by freshman quarterback
Xeaiver Bullock (Fayetteville, NC/E.E. Smith HS), who crossed the goal line on a 3-yard run, starting quarterback
Collyn Anderson (Durham, NC/Hillside HS) scrambled for 28 yards to give Fayetteville State a 20-0 lead with 9:33 left in the first half.

Joshua Williams (Fayetteville, NC/Jack Britt HS) scored the Broncos second special teams' touchdown on a blocked Golden Bulls' punt. He returned the blocked punt from 25 yards out.

On Johnson C. Smith's next possession, Brandon Howard sailed a punt for 32 yards to the waiting hands of
Tyeous Sharpe (Winston-Salem, NC/Parkland HS). Sharpe swayed his way into the endzone for a 53-yard return.

"It felt great to finally be able to play at home," said Sharpe. "To get to show out in front of our fans. We have been waiting on this for a few weeks."

Johnnie Glaspie (Wallace, NC/Wallace Rose HS) score two touchdowns today. His first was with 3:30 remaining in the second quarter. He darted from 4 yards out. His second score was at the 7:53 mark in the fourth quarter, when he scored on a 54-yard marathon run. The score topped a 3-play 65-yard drive which lasted a minute and 12 seconds.

David Lamb (Pineville, NC/South Mecklenburg HS), who is coping with ailments, nailed a 30-yard field before halftime to give FSU a 43-0 lead.

Stevie Green (Washington, NC/Washington HS) scored his only touchdown in the third quarter with 9:58 on the clock. Green capped a 75-yard drive with a 12-yard run for the score.

Tristan Walker (Raleigh, NC/Southeast Raleigh HS) hauled in a 16-yard pass from Anderson to give FSU a 57-0 lead over JCSU.

Johnson C. Smith scored its only points of the game with 9:05 left in the game. Antonio Wallace threw a 16-yard pass to Janarius Hood. The two-point conversion failed. The score lasted five plays and the ball moved 75 yards in a little over five-and-a-half minutes.

The Broncos defense also got on the board when
Markus Crutchfield recovered a fumble and advanced it 15 yards for a score and the 70-6 win.

Collyn Anderson threw for 152 yards with 12 completions and one touchdown.
Stevie Green ran for 113 yards on 21 carries.

Fayetteville State tallied 461 yards of total offense to the Golden Bulls 194. The Broncos ran for 309 yards while the passing game finished with 152. J.C. Smith had a total of 153 passing yards and 41 rushing.

The Broncos will travel to Durham, NC next weekend to take on Saint Augustine's for the Falcon's homecoming.
