Florence, SC ââ'¬" The Fayetteville State University women's basketball team suffered a 69-53 non-conference road loss to Francis Marion University on Wednesday, November 25th at the Smith University Center. FSU falls to 3-3 overall, while the Patriots improve to 5-0 in the standings.

Senior center Bria Robinson (Belmont, NC) scored the first basket of the game with a jumper in the paint off a pass from freshman forward Kara Straite (Greensboro, NC). Aside from scoring the initial bucket, the Lady Broncos never led again in the game.

Francis Marion ended the first quarter with a 19-13 advantage. The Patriots followed up by outscoring FSU 17-7 in the second quarter. The Lady Broncos trailed 36-20 at halftime. Robinson and sophomore guard Shamaiya Battle (Fayetteville, NC) each had a team-high four points in the first half. Meanwhile, Shaunice Fulmore led FMU with 10 points off the bench.

Fayetteville State faced a double digit deficit for the entire third quarter. Battle and freshman forward Caleia Jones (Shelby, NC) combined for eight of the Lady Broncos 14 points in the third. Francis Marion held a 52-34 advantage entering the fourth quarter.

FSU managed to outscore the Patriots 19-17 in the final quarter. The Lady Broncos sparked a 14-0 run in the last three minutes of the contests, including two three-pointer from junior forward Makayla Williams (Raleigh, NC). Unfortunately, the late scoring spree would not be enough to claim victory.

Francis Marion shot 40% (28-69) from the field and topped FSU 30-13 in points off turnovers and 43-17 in bench points. Fayetteville State fared better from the floor, shooting 45% (22-48).

Williams had a team-high 13 points, along with five rebounds and three steals for Fayetteville State. Robinson concluded the contest with 11 points and five boards. Battle and Jones each chipped in eight points.

Khayani Chandler finished with a game-high 20 points for FMU. Fulmore followed the effort with 17 points and three blocks.

The Lady Broncos return to their home floor for their next game against Lander University on Sunday, November 29th. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m. at Felton J. Capel Arena.
