Fayetteville, NC ââ'¬" The Fayetteville State University men's basketball team beat Morris College 102-95 in a non-conference contest on Thursday, November 19th at Felton J. Capel Arena. The Broncos improve to 2-2 overall, while the Hornets fall to 2-3 in the standings.
FSU dominated the early onslaught of the first half with a 14-0 run. Morris did not score until three minutes into the game. The Broncos held a 50-40 lead at the end of the first half.
Fayetteville State shot 41% (14-34) from the floor and 78% (22-28) from the foul line in the opening half. Junior forward Michael Tyson (Kinston, NC) and freshman guard Isaiah Vinson (Fayetteville, NC) set the scoring pace with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Hornets trailed in this game from begin until the conclusion. The Broncos lead by as much as 15 in the second half and did not allow Morris to draw within five. Fayetteville State outscored MC 60-52 in the paint. FSU shot an efficient 72% (18-25) from the field in the second half, including 2-of-5 (40%) shooting from the three point line.
Tyson recorded a new career-high of 33 points, along with seven rebounds and four blocks. Vinson and redshirt freshman William Tibbs (Winston-Salem, NC) each scored 12 points. Tibbs also added eight rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. Sophomore Carl McCray (Roper, NC) and junior forward Jason Lee (Raleigh, NC) chipped in 11 points apiece.
Qu'Ran Turner led all Hornets with 20 points, along with four boards and a block.
The Broncos have a chance to extend their winning streak to three games in their next contest against Claflin University on Monday, November 23rd. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Capel Arena.
