BRONCOS BASKETBALL SEIZES 75-54 VICTORY OVER ELIZABETH CITY STATE

Elizabeth City, NC - The Fayetteville State University men's basketball team dominated Elizabeth City State University en route to a 75-54 conference win on Monday, January 5th at the R.L. Vaughan Center. FSU improves to 7-6 overall and 1-2 in the CIAA, while the Vikings drop to 9-7 overall and 2-1 in the CIAA standings.

The Broncos opened up the contest with back to back three-pointers from senior forward Torian Showers (Dublin, GA). Glenn Patterson hit a three to cut the FSU lead down to 6-3. Jermaine Brown tied the game 6-6 with a free throw and a field goal. Sophomore guard Joshua Dawson (Kinston, NC) broke the tie with a jumper at the 15:50 mark.

Fayetteville State maintained a lead for the remainder of the game. At intermission, the Vikings trailed 36-27. The Broncos shot 52% (14-27) from the field in the opening, compared to 29% (8-27) shooting for ECSU. FSU connected on eight of their 15 three-point attempts (53%) to build an advantage in the first half.

Showers and senior guard Anthony Shelton (Cary, NC) each had nine points before the second period.

Elizabeth City State cut into the Broncos' advantage at the start of the final half. Patterson made two three-pointer within the first 90 seconds. Miykael Faulcon sank a three with 16:39 on the clock to draw the Vikings within a possession (40-39).

FSU rattled off 12 unanswered points to increase the lead to 52-39 approaching the 13-minute mark. Elizabeth City State faced a double digit deficit for the final 13 minutes of play.

Four Broncos produced double figures in points led by redshirt freshman Carl McCray (Roper, NC) with 17 points. Shelton and junior forward Marquette Hill (Raleigh, NC) pitched in 12 points apiece. Showers concluded the night with a double-double of 11 points and 19 boards. Dawson had a full stat line of eight points, eight assists, and six rebounds.

Faulcon had a game-high 20 points, followed by Patterson with 10 points and four rebounds. ECSU was out-rebounded 43-28 throughout the game. Fayetteville State held the Vikings to 29% (17-57) shooting and outscored ECSU 24-8 in the paint.

Fayetteville State will matchup against The Lincoln University on Thursday, January 8th. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at the Felton J. Capel Arena.
