FSU LADY BRONCOS HOLD OFF LINCOLN (PA), 70-65

Jan. 9, 2014

Final Stats

LINCOLN, PA - The Fayetteville State women's basketball team had to score the game's final six points to find a victory on Thursday night. Fortunately for the Lady Broncos, they were able to do just that in a 70-65 win at The Lincoln (PA) University.

Je'Lena Robertson scored a season-high 17 points and Deja Middleton hauled in 17 rebounds as FSU improves to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Despite outrebounding the Lady Lions 46-34, the home team (6-7, 0-4) was able to keep things close up to the very end. A Courtney Lucas 3-pointer with 1:59 gave the Lions the lead, but Amber Calvin made a jumper and Akysia Resper sunk four free throws in the final 31 seconds to seal the win.

FSU led 29-27 at the half. Calvin led all scorers with 22 points and went 4-of-11 from behind the arc.

Lincoln displayed the typical good ballhandling it's accustomed to, only turning the ball over 15 times. That forced the Broncos to use their size advantage and make shots to compete.

After a slow start, FSU shot 44.4 percent in the second stanza, refusing to yield when the Lady Lions found ways to score.

Neither team led by more than six.

FSU continues its road trip to Virginia, where the Lady Broncos face Virginia Union on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
