FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Fayetteville State (16-3, 13-0 CIAA) swept Livingstone (17-5, 8-5 CIAA) in three sets (25-12, 25-14, 25-19) this afternoon in a key CIAA Southern Division matchup at Felton J. Capel Arena. Currently unbeaten in conference and divisional play, the Lady Broncos (7-0 division) now has a three-game lead over second place Livingstone (4-2 division). FSU has three divisional games remaining to claim the outright title of Southern Divisional Champs. Jessica Hardy (sophomore - Fayetteville, NC) led the effort with eight kills and 21 total attacks.
Hardy's team-high eight kills led a Fayetteville State attack that tallied 35 total kills in the contest. Joylene Thompson (Jr., Spanish Town, JA), Ifeyinwa Nwokolo (Sr., Greensboro, NC) and Taylor Norris (So., Fayetteville, NC) added seven kills each. Molly Farrington recorded 18 assists and Paige Horne added 15. JaMisha Jordan (Jr., Fayetteville, NC) posted a team-high 13 digs for the Lady Broncos. Fayetteville State finished with a total of 102 total attacks and 35 kills. The team minimized their errors with 11 attack-errors and eight service errors.
Livingstone College gave a valiant effort as the night progressed. Phylicia Egbuna and Lareecia Swiney totaled five kills each. Egbuna had a total of 27 total attacks while Swiney added 22. The Lady Blue Bears had a total of 90 total attacks with 19 kills. The team had 48 attack-digs, a game high, but committed 25 attack-errors which worked against them.
The Lady Broncos will host non-conference opponent Benedict College tomorrow afternoon at 6:00 p.m. FSU will host Senior Night on November 5th in its final divisional game against Johnson C. Smith
