RALEIGH, N.C. - Aslea Williams led four players in double-figures with 21 points as Shaw downed Fayetteville State 79-51 for their 13th straight victory on Monday night at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
Kyria Buford added 15 points and nine rebounds while Sequoyah Griffin had 14 points and Brittany Ransom added 11 for the Lady Bears (14-5, 9-0, 3-0), who remain unbeaten in CIAA play.
The Lady Broncos (7-10, 2-7, 0-3) played well early in the game, and were effective defensively, holding Shaw to just 36 percent shooting from the floor in the first half.
But Buford buried 3-pointers on three straight possessions, spurring a 13-0 Lady Bears run to give Shaw a 36-16 lead with 4:07 to go in the period. The Lady Bears led 39-21 at the break.
Shaw didn't fare much better from the field for the remainder of the game - outside of getting red hot behind the 3-point line. After misfiring on their first seven 3-point attempts, the Lady Bears, who were limited to just 39 percent shooting for the game, finished the game hitting seven of their last nine shots from 3 to build on their lead in the second half.
Bria Robinson (Fr., Belmont, N.C.) led Fayetteville State with 12 points to go with seven rebounds. Je'Lena Robertson (So., Houston, Texas) added nine points while Akysia Resper (So., Concord, N.C.) had eight.
Fayetteville State hosts St. Augustine's at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
