Final Stats

TIGERVILLE, S.C. - Paul Harrison scored on a putback with 18 seconds left in overtime to lift North Greenville to a 67-65 win over Fayetteville State in men's basketball on Tuesday night.

Harrison, who finished with eight points and eight rebounds, rebounded teammate Zack Shields' miss and scored the final basket of the game - and the first in more than 3 minutes after Tyrrel Tate(So., Raleigh, N.C.) had given the Broncos (4-10) a 65-64 edge with 3:30 remaining.

The Broncos, who have lost four straight, trailed 55-51 with 5:09 to go in regulation before Andre Best (Jr., Raleigh, N.C.) found Travis Marcus(So, Washington, D.C.) with a nifty pass on a breakaway to tie the game at 55 with 3:34 left.

Chris Dean then scored four straight points for North Greenville to give the Crusaders a 4-point lead again, but a Donte Fields(Jr., New Bern, N.C.) putback and two Tate foul shots tied it up again at 59 with 1:04 to go.

Fayetteville State had a chance to win the game in regulation, but Sidney Evans (Sr., Durham, N.C.) missed a 3-point attempt with 4 seconds remaining.

Fayetteville State took a 63-61 lead with 4:15 left in overtime on a John Herrington(Sr., Jacksonville, Fla.) basket, but Jimmy Eillis, who made five 3-pointers to lead all players with 17 points, hit a trey for a 65-64 lead with 4:01 left.

Tate answered that bucket on the next possession, and the teams traded defensive stops until Harrison's rebound. The Broncos again had a chance to win the game at the end, but turned it over in the final seconds

Dean added 15 points for the Crusaders while Jamaal Pryor had 10 points and eight rebounds. Shields chipped in 10 points.

The loss overshadows a brilliant effort by the Broncos' Best, who finished with nine points, a career-high eight rebounds, six assists and five steals, which matched a career-best. Tate led Fayetteville State with 14 points while Herrington had 12. Evans had a game-high nine rebounds.

The Broncos got off to a good start despite struggling to find their range from the field. Fayetteville State, which finished the game shooting just 32 percent from the floor) used a 12-3 run midway through the opening half to take a 14-8 lead, getting five points off the bench from Lenton Donnell(Jr., Wilmington, N.C.) to spark the spurt.

But North Greenville came right back, getting back-to-back 3-pointers from Shields to spark a 14-2 stretch to give the Crusaders their largest lead to that point, 29-23, with 1:35 to go in the period.

Jarmel Baxter (Sr., Davidson, N.C.), who missed five of his first six shot attempts, buried a deep 3-pointer with 2 seconds to go in the half, bringing the Broncos within three, 33-30, at the break.
