Feb. 14, 2011

Final Stats

FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- Two days after nearly recording a triple-double, St. Augustine's guard Allison Sikes made a run at another one to lead the Lady Falcons to a 67-48 victory over the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos on Monday night at Felton J. Capel Arena.

Sikes, who was the named as the CIAA Player of the Week on Monday after posting 24 points, 10 rebounds and nine steals in the Lady Falcons' upset of Johnson C. Smith on Saturday, was every bit as good against the Lady Broncos. She finished with a game-high 24 points - 17 in the first half -- and 11 steals to go with eight rebounds.

Fayetteville State (6-17, 4-10, 1-6) jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead 80 seconds into the game, but St. Augustine's (15-9, 9-5, 3-4) answered with a 19-2 run over the next 8 minutes to take a 12-point lead midway through the half. The Lady Falcons then closed the last 9 minutes of the first half on a 22-7 spurt, getting a corner 3-pointer from Sikes as time expired to take a commanding 42-18 lead into the break.

The Lady Broncos made a charge at the Lady Falcons in the second half, using a 14-1 run over the first 10 minutes of the second period to trim the deficit to 11, 43-32. But that was as close as Fayetteville State could get.

Tiffany Haywood (Sr., Fayetteville, NC) led the Lady Broncos with 17 points and nine rebounds, nearly missing her eighth double-double of the season. No other Lady Broncos' player scored in double figures. SheQuitia Manning (Jr., Capital Heights MD) also had nine rebounds.

Umeka Benson added 12 points while Brittany Torain and Scharlawn Hubbard had 10 apiece for the Lady Falcons.
