LADY BRONCOS STICK TO WINNING WAYS IN VOLLEYBALL

WINSTON-SALEM - In their last match before the two-day CIAA Volleyball Roundup at Fayetteville State, the Lady Broncos cruised past the Winston-Salem State Rams 3-0 on the road Wednesday night.

All-CIAA players Samantha Meeks had a match-high 11 kills and Achari Mainor led all players with 30 assists as Fayetteville State won by the scores of 25-15, 27-25 and 25-21. Jamisha Jordan added a game-high nine digs while Octavia Wynn, Mainor and Meeks had seven digs apiece.

FSU fell behind by eight points, 18-10, late in the second set, and were two points from losing the set when the Lady Rams took a 23-18 edge. But The Lady Broncos stormed back with a 6-1 run that tied the match at 24, setting up a solid come-from-behind victory.

Fayetteville State (5-1, 5-1 in the CIAA) will host the second half of the CIAA Roundup on Saturday and Sunday at Felton J. Capel Arena after finishing 3-1 in the first half of the Roundup at Winston-Salem State last weekend. The Lady Broncos, who have played in the last three CIAA Championship finals, also got eight kills from Ifeyinwa Nwokolo and six apiece from Joi Emanuel and Jessica Hardy in a balanced effort.

Georgette Allen led Winston-Salem State (4-6, 4-2) with seven kills while Ashley Harris and Erica Cole had six each. Kiara Brown led the Lady Rams with 16 assists while Cole had seven digs.
