Final Stats
MURFREESBORO - Fayetteville State dominated nearly every statistical category in its 69-64 loss at Chowan.
The Broncos (4-10, 1-7 CIAA) outrebounded Chowan 41-30 and held the Hawks to 37.5 percent shooting from the field.
However, the free-throw disparity proved to be too much for FSU to overcome. Head coach Alphonza Kee's Broncos were whistled for 28 personal fouls that resulted in 36 free-throw attempts for Chowan (11-4, 7-2 CIAA). FSU went to the free-throw line just 13 times.
Jamel Carpenter, the CIAA's leading scorer, led FSU with 22 points. Freshman point guard Andre Best added eight points in only 14 minutes while Jarrick Jones and senior Larry Ross had seven each.
The conference's second leading scorer, the Hawks' Jaleel Nelson, made 12 of his 16 free throws en route to a game-high 26 points.
FSU led by as much as eight points in the first half and was on top 30-25 at halftime.
Kee and the Broncos will host Saint Paul's on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
