FAYETTEVILLE - The Fayetteville State women's basketball team continued its dominance of opponents inside Capel Arena on Saturday.
FSU, who is a perfect 6-0 at home, dropped Claflin University 64-54 in the team's final non-conference game of the year.
The Broncos (8-4) have downed opponents by an average of 11.6 points per game at home this season. In fact, FSU has won 10 of its last 11 games at home.
"It's always good to play at home," said Broncos' head coach Eva Patterson-Heath. "It was team day and we had some elementary schools here. That was really good and that increased attendance - they were like our sixth man."
LaQuasha Jordan led FSU with a career-high 18 points, including three 3-point field goals. Tiffany Haywood had her second-straight double-double scoring 11 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Haywood has 32 rebounds in her last two games.
"I was open a lot," Jordan said. "I think the zone they used gave me some open looks and I tried to take advantage of them."
"We want her to shoot," Patterson-Heath said of Jordan. "When she's hitting, she's hitting. When she's on, she's on. We want her to shoot and we have to have more of that during the season."
FSU held Claflin (2-12) to 32.2 percent shooting from the field and scored 22 points off 28 Panthers turnovers.
Despite the Panthers' record, Patterson-Heath said she knew Claflin would be dangerous.
"These teams, they have pride in themselves," she said. "They enjoy what they're doing or they wouldn't be here. They're not just coming here to roll over and not participate. They want to play."
Patterson-Heath's squad committed only 21 turnovers - its second best performance of the year.
"I told them at halftime that we weren't going to be a 30-plus turnover team," said Patterson-Heath. "I still don't want to be a 20-plus turnover team."
Jordan and the Broncos look to continue their home winning streak when FSU hosts Virginia Union on Tuesday. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
"I think we're focused and ready to win the rest of the season," said Jordan. "We're working to not turn the ball over and we're playing as a team."
Ashley Gibson led Claflin with 18 points while Donisha Albert added 15 points and a team-high 10 rebounds in 40 minutes of action.
