By: Cortney Slaughter - Fayetteville, NC - The Lady Broncos (16-6 overall, 10-4 CIAA, 4-0 Division) crushed Saint Augustine's (11-11, 6-9 CIAA, 3-3 Div.) in an 84-65 victory in Felton J. Capel Arena. Danielle Russell (Wilmington, NC) broke her career high in points with 27 points and dished out five assists in the game. Chelsea Jeter (Baltimore, MD) helped lead the way with 13 points, three blocks and eight rebounds; two rebounds shy of her fourth double-double of the season. As for the Lady Falcons, Allison Sikes (Richmond, VA) had a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds while freshman Keyona Bryant (Springdale, MD) had 14 points, eight rebounds and five steals.

The Lady Falcons gave the Lady Broncos a wakeup call towards the end of the first half. After an 8-0 FSU run to start the game, Fayetteville State remained ahead by as much as 12 with 2:46 remaining in the half. The Lady Falcons used the free throw line (shooting 64%, hitting 9-14 of their attempts) and out rebound FSU 25-19. The Lady Broncos went on a 6-0 run to end the half with a 32-36 halftime lead.

Entering the 2nd half, the Lady Falcons could not stop the Lady Broncos who were running the show. The Lady Broncos opened the 2nd half with a 5-0 run. With 6:27 remaining in the half, the Lady Falcons battled back to come within five points, 57-62. Wasting no time, Fayetteville State turned up the heat offensively and defensively. The Lady Broncos shot a perfect 4-4 from behind the 3-point line and boosted their free throw percentage to a 58% making 10 out of their 17. Defensively, the Lady Broncos did not allow any fast break points and caused ten turnovers.

The Lady Broncos will face the Shaw Lady Bears on February 12, 2009 in Raleigh, NC. Fayetteville State currently stands alone in the CIAA Western Division with a 4-0 record. There are four divisional game remaining for FSU.
