Final Stats
Raleigh, NC - Fayetteville State (12-11, 6-9 CIAA) led Shaw in field goal percentage (39.3% to 35.4%), free throw percentage, (77.8% to 57.7%), and 3-point shooting percentage (37.5% to 33.3%). The Broncos out rebounded the Bears 46-42 but committed 17 turnovers in a 66-64 loss to Shaw (11-13, 8-8 CIAA). The crucial turnovers in the final minutes dropped a Fayetteville State five-point lead, with 3:29 to go, down to a one point deficit (59-58) with 1:50 left. The Broncos missed six of nine shot attempts prior to the final buzzard. Andy Gebru (Orlando, FL) led the team with 15 points while Ariel Robinson (Coral Springs, FL) and Darshawn Johnson (Brooklyn, NY) both finish with 11 points each.
Fayetteville Stat eased its way to a 13-point lead in the first half with 7:04 remaining. After a few bad shoot selections, the comfortable lead began to skid to a halftime tie, 30-30. The first part of the second half was played as a balancing act but in favor of the Broncos. Both teams traded baskets until the seventh tie of the game with 8:42 on the clock. The Broncos made its final run of the game to go up by five and watch it disappear by the efforts of Eddie Dawson (18 points), Raheem Smith (14 points) and Rodney Callwood (14 points).
Shaw had a five point lead with 15 seconds left of the clock but it was cut to three by a tip-in by Davon Hood at six seconds. Will Graham made one of two free throws for the win. Jarrick Jones jumper (inches inside the three point arc) prior to the buzzard would not be enough for the Broncos.
FSU lost the first matchup to the Bears (55-56) in the final minutes of the game. The Broncos will host Livingstone College on Saturday, February 14th. The University will be participating in "The Pink Zone" and will supply cancer survivors, would contact the athletic department prior to the game, free admission to the game and special seating with the Chancellor's family.
