Final Stats
Raleigh, NC - Shaw University (11-10, 7-6 CIAA) dressed the gym, in pink in order to honor Cancer Survivors during its "Pink Zone" celebration, but Fayetteville State (17-6, 11-4 CIAA) turned Spaulding Gymnasium blue with an 88-83 victory. The Lady Broncos led by as much as 15 in the second half (10:51 remaining) until Shaw made a game of it late in the game. L'Oreal Price (Raleigh, NC) hit 24 points to lead the game. FSU led by 12 at the 12:54 mark in the first half but Shaw closed the gap to eight (37-45) at intermission.
Three Lady Broncos scored in double-figures. Chelsea Jeter, Baltimore, MD, had the only double-double of the night with 18 points and ten rebounds while Erica Gilley (Lexington, NC) was the other FSU player in double figures with a dozen points. Fayetteville State shot 47.9% from the floor and 70% from the free throw line. FSU out rebounded the Lady Bears 39-33 and had 19 second-chance points to Shaw's nine.
Shana Andrus led the Lady Bears comeback effort with 22 points. Tanisha McGaughey hit 17 points while Saundra Proctor hit three of seven three pointers and two free throws for 11 points. Shaw was 49.1% in the field and 71.4 from the line.
Fayetteville State will host Livingstone on Saturday, February 14th and honor its cancer survivors with a "Pink Zone" event. Game time is 5:30 pm.
