FAYETTEVILLE STATE FINISHES SIXTH AT CIAA BOWLING ROUNDUP

Fayetteville, NC - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) held its annual bowling round-up this past weekend in Bowie, Maryland. Fayetteville State failed to knock down critical pins against conference members in the Eastern Division. The Lady Broncos had 17 event points and finished 7-10 overall on the weekend for the sixth spot. Virginia State won the event with a 14-1 record and 37 event points. Akira Turner (sophomore - Detroit, MI) totaled 2375 pins in the two-day head-to-head play.

In the first day of the roundup, Fayetteville State opened with an 853-513 win over Lincoln. Jessica Florit (senior - Sanford, NC) led the way against the Lady Lions with a 235 pin count. The Lady Broncos had a turn for the worst with losses to St. Paul's, Virginia State, and Elizabeth City State. The scores were 754-819 to the Lady Tigers, 822-860 to the Lady Trojans, and 841-907 to the Lady Vikings. FSU finished the day with wins over Bowie State (849-823) and Virginia Union (881-628), Akira Turner bowled 209 versus the Lady Bulldogs and 234 against the Lady Panthers.

After the second day, Fayetteville State had a 6-6 record. With another 3-3 day, the Lady Broncos defeated VA Union, Lincoln, and VA State. The defeats were 826-956 to BSU, 904-917 to SPC, and 755-847 to ECSU. Florit led with 155 pins against Union and 215 pins against VSU. Turner had 265 pins versus Lincoln.

In the final day of competition, FSU defeated Virginia Union 644-499 in Baker Match. The Lady Broncos finished the match 1-4.

Prior to the weekend event, freshman Kiara Reid was named the CIAA Event II Rookie of the Week. Reid (Rocky Mount, NC) had an event average of 144.7.
