HAMPTON, Va. - The Fayetteville State volleyball team avenged one of its two conference losses at the CIAA Tournament on Friday.

The Broncos played what head coach Reeshemah Johnson called their most complete match of the season, en route to a 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-16) win over Eastern Division champion Elizabeth City State.

"Everybody stayed aggressive and everybody contributed on defense," Johnson said. "That's normally one of our weaker areas."

Added senior libero Cailee Huffman: "We did what we had to do to get the victory. I think it was the best match we played all season because everybody played as a team. But we have a better match to play in the championship."

FSU's win over ECSU capped off an undefeated day and a victory in Pool A.

Johnson's squad will face St. Augustine's - the No. 2 seed from Pool B - on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.

"I'm excited, I really am," Johnson said. "At this point we have to maintain the focus. We still have two matches to go. We have to savor that for a minute and then get ready for tomorrow's matchup."

FSU beat the Falcons twice this season, dropping only one set.

"I think they're a pretty good team," said Huffman.

Earlier in the day, FSU beat Shaw 3-0 25-17, 25-16, 25-13) and Bowie State (25-17, 25-16, 25-13).

Huffman and the Broncos have 16 of their last 17 CIAA matches.

"We've been preparing for this throughout the season," Johnson said. "They're ready. We'll go back and get ready for tomorrow mentally. We'll be ready."

Chowan and ECSU will meet at 7 p.m. in the other semifinal match.
