ETTRICK, Va. - Five Fayetteville State players scored in double figures in its 91-83 loss to Virginia State on Monday.
The victory was VSU's first of the season.
Jamel Carpenter, the CIAA's top scorer, registered his second straight double-double scoring 22 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Ben Davis had his best game at FSU (2-3. 0-3 CIAA) amassing a double-double with 18 points and 16 rebounds.
Jarmel Baxter tallied 12 points and five rebounds while point guard Jarrick Jones added 11 points and six assists.
In his second game of the season, Ariel Robinson had 10 points.
VSU (1-4, 1-3 CIAA) shot 59.3 percent from the field. Trey Mines led the Trojans with a game-high 24 points.
The Broncos travel to St. Andrews on Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
