Fayetteville, NC - The Lady Broncos wasn't firing on all cylinders in its 75-54 win over Chowan (6-15 overall) in Felton J. Capel Arena. Shooting 40% from the field, Fayetteville State (13-5 overall) took advantage of 31 turnovers by translating them into 28 points. While FSU scored 42 points in the paint, the Lady Broncos made 26 of 65 field goal attempts. Erica Gilley (Lexington, NC) led the game with 12 points while the bench chipped in 36 points. Chowan was down 27-38 at intermission.
Fayetteville State held a slim advantage in rebounding at 48-45. The Lady Broncos had 17 second chance points to the Lady Hawks ten. Chelsea Jeter (Baltimore, MD) was the second highest scorer for the Lady Broncos with nine points.
Patricia Price led the Lady Hawks with 11 points. Chowan struggled in the field making 19 field goals out of 58. CU converted 20 of the Lady Broncos turnovers into 13 points.
Fayetteville State took early control of the first half with a ten-point with 10:52 remaining. The Lady Broncos put 12 of 14 players on the court and shot 41.2% from the field. Tiffany Haywood and Erica Gilley led the half with seven points each. Ten of the 12 players that played in the first half scored at least two points.
Fayetteville State will travel to Elizabeth City, NC on Thursday, January 29 for its second game against the Lady Vikings.
