Fayetteville, NC - The Fayetteville State University Lady Broncos topped Johnson C. Smith University 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, and 25-20) in CIAA volleyball action Tuesday evening from Felton J. Capel Arena. FSU snaps a six-game losing streak in the home opener.

Sophomore middle blocker Chekimbrell Jefferson and junior libero Cailee Huffman each tallied 10 kills in the Lady Broncos' victory. Jefferson had 17 attack attempts, while Huffman attempted the attack 21 times. Sophomore Samantha Meeks outside hitter and senior right-side hitter Heather Chance collaborated on the offensive attack for FSU to add nine kills each.

Sophomore setter Achari Mainor handed out a match-high 22 assists, while Huffman captured six digs for FSU.

Middle hitter Ashley Young-Jones led the Johnson C. Smith attack with 10 kills, while hitting .529. Setter Alexis Webb dished out 15 assists, while libero Rashondae Henderson led the way with 8 digs.

"We still have a couple of things to work on, but it was good to get the win," FSU head coach Elorine Hill says. "Our new players are still adjusting and we have some room for improvement, which is promising."

Fayetteville State hit .260 for the match, racking up 43 kills against only 18 errors on 96 attacks. The JCSU Lady Golden Bulls hit .151, with 18 kills and 10 errors in 53 attacks. FSU collected 11 aces, with Huffman leading the way with five.

With the victory, FSU improves to 3-6 overall and 1-0 in the CIAA. Johnson C. Smith falls to 1-5 in the overall standings and start off 0-1 in the conference.

The Lady Broncos return to action Thursday, September 11th to face Chowan University. The Hawks will host FSU for a scheduled 6:00 pm contest.
