Final Stats
Wingate, NC - The Fayetteville State Lady Broncos fall to the Bobcats of Lees-McRae 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-16) on the final day of the Wingate Tournament of Champions in Cuddy Arena. FSU went 0-3 in the two-day tournament, also suffering losses to USC-Aiken and Wingate. The Bobcats pick up their first win of the season and improve to 1-6, while Fayetteville State drops to 2-6.
Sophomore middle blocker Chekimbrell Jefferson and sophomore outside hitter Samantha Meeks led the Lady Broncos with five kills each. Sophomore setter Achari Mainor dished out 13 assists, while junior libero Cailee Huffman collected 13 digs.
Middle blocker Whitney Kiser led the offensive attack for Lees-McRae with 10 kills. Junior middle blocker Katie-Marie Legg and freshman outside hitter Lauren Hall added seven kills apiece. Junior setter Lauren Dickover and junior setter Trisha Reese handed out 18 and 17 assists, respectively, for the Bobcats.
The Lady Broncos hit .023 for the match, with 17 kills and 15 errors on 88 attacks. Lees-McRae hit .217 with 42 kills and 19 errors on 106 attacks. The Bobcats also racked up nine aces.
Fayetteville State returns to action Tuesday, September 9, for a home opener against CIAA rival Johnson C. Smith. The contest is schedule to begin at 6:00 pm from inside Capel Arena.
