Raleigh, NC - The Lady Broncos knock off their second conference opponent this week in the Raleigh area with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-10) win over Shaw University on Thursday evening from the C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. Fayetteville State defeated St. Augustine's College on Tuesday in three straight sets. The victory improves FSU to 10-7 in the overall standings and 7-1 in the CIAA.
Head Coach Elorine Hill split time between her two setters, who spread the wealth on the court. Freshman setter Kierra Crosland had a team-high 12 assists and two service aces, while sophomore setter Achari Mainor tossed in 10 assists. Junior middle blocker Chekimbrell Jefferson was a recipient for the two setters, tallying 10 kills with a .500 hitting percentage and four service aces.
Outside hitter Nikita Grant had a 7 kills, 11 digs performance for the Lady Bears. Setter Nia Bailey distributed a game-high 21 assists in the match-up.
Jefferson is currently the conference leader in kills (3.70 per set) and hitting percentage (.405), while Mainor is the statistical leader in the CIAA for assists (averaging 8.17 per set).
FSU will participate in the Swamp Fox Volleyball Invitational hosted by Francis Marion University on September 19th - 20th. The Lady Broncos face Franklin Pierce and Augusta State University on Friday, and then battle Montreat College and Francis Marion on Saturday.
