BRONCO SPRING FOOTBALL UNDERWAY

March 14, 2008

Fayetteville, NC - Fayetteville State opened its spring practice on Monday, March 10th. For head coach Kenny Phillips it is his eighth spring season with the Broncos. Last season, the staff spent a majority of the practices making position changes and trying to fill the depth chart. So far, the Broncos have 100 student-athletes competing for a spot on the roster. There are 73 returning student-athletes from the squad list, 28 student-athletes that were cleared in the spring semester, and seven transfers.

"We're hitting the ground running," says Phillips. "So far these kids have been out here working hard and showcasing their skills. The competition at free safety, defensive live, and running back has been very interesting. This is all apart of the process for getting our team prepared. Hopefully, we'll come out of spring practice with a better foundation for what it takes to win this year."

Fayetteville State's Blue and White spring scrimmage is Saturday, April 5th at 2 p.m. Coach Phillips set up the spring practice schedule so the team would have eight weeks of conditioning prior to the start of spring workouts. Per NCAA rules, teams must complete their 15 spring practices within 34 calendar days. The final spring practice is set for Friday, April 4th, allowing players three weeks before the start of final exams.

The Broncos' spring practice dates are March 10, 11, 13, 14, 17, 18, 20, 24, 25, 27, 28, 31 and April 1, 3, 4. Practices are closed to the public. The Blue and White spring scrimmage on April 5th is open to the public and admission is free. Stay tuned to FSUBroncos.com for more details.
