Hampton, VA - The 2008 CIAA Basketball All-Rookie Teams have been announced as voted on by the CIAA Sports Information Directors' Association.
Freshman forward Derek Holmes was selected to the 2008 CIAA Men's All-Rookie Team. Holmes, a native of Washington, DC, leads the CIAA in field goal scoring percentage (.661) and ninth in the conference in rebounding (avg. 6.5 per game). The 6'5, criminal justice major has started in six of his 25 games played and the fourth leading scorer for the Broncos, averaging 6.8 points per game.
For the women, representing Saint Augustine's College as the 2008 CIAA Women's Rookie of the Year is Allison Sikes. The 2008 CIAA Men's Rookie of the Year Haywood Fain is also from Saint Augustine's College.
The Men's and Women's All-Rookie Basketball teams will be honored at their respective tip-off banquets in Charlotte, NC the week of the 2008 CIAA Basketball Tournament. A complete list of the 2008 All-Rookie Teams is as follow:
