Charlotte, NC - Fayetteville State University committed 32 turnovers in tonight's contest against Johnson C. Smith as the Lady Broncos fell 74-53 in Brayboy Gymnasium. The Lady Golden Bulls committed 29 of their own but managed to covert FSU's mishaps into 38 points.
Leticia Dickson's 13 points were out-done by JCSU's Amber Stoney, who contributed a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Johnson C. Smith led 31-24 at the half.
Johnson C. Smith slowly built a 12-point lead in the first half matching a point for every turnover made by Fayetteville State (14). At the 3:50 mark, the Lady Broncos narrowed the lead to five by the senior leadership of Passion Phillips and Leticia Dickson. Rochelle Bodie, who reached the 1,000 Rebound Plateau, pushed the lead back to eight before the half.
Johnson C. Smith quickly extended its lead to 18 within the first three minutes of the second half. Fayetteville State reached within six points (36-42) with 12:29 remaining before the bombardment of 18 turnovers for the half ate away all hopes of a comeback.
Phillips was the second leading scorer for the Lady Broncos with eight points. Fayetteville State shot 29 percent from the floor and made four of ten three-pointers. FSU led the game in free-throw percentage making 15 of 20 for 75%.
Johnson C. Smith converted 31 of 61 field goals (50.8%) and made 46.2% from the free throw line. The Lady Golden Bulls won the boards with 47 rebounds to 37.
