Senior guard Jamel Austin definitely was not shy for the cameras. Austin scored 13 points in the first half, including three out of four attempts from the three point line. The Broncos put themselves in a good position going into halftime. Fayetteville State made all four attempts from the free throw line (100%) and went 14 of 28 from the field (50%) in the opening period.
FSU led by 15 at one point, but the Falcons went on a 14-2 run and cut the Broncos' advantage to 56-52 by halftime.
A lay-up from guard Marcus Butler ended a 7-0 Broncos' scoring run that lasted a little over three and a half minutes. Butler would sink a jumper with 6:30 left to play, which drew the Falcons as close as they would come to FSU at 56-52. Saint Augustine's went on a five minute scoring drought, while the Broncos added seven points to their total.
The Falcons outscored Fayetteville State 22-to-6 inside the paint. Despite the disparity, the Broncos led from the 15:45 mark of the second half. The win completed a divisional season sweep over Saint Augustine's.
Phillippe Harris, a senior guard from Fayetteville, NC, led all scorers with 21 points and four rebounds. Junior guard Andy Gebru produced 10 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Both players were perfect from the free throw line. Austin finished with 16 points. Sophomore forward Larry Ross grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds for the Broncos.
