Raleigh, NC - The Broncos visited the Falcons of St. Augustine's College for a CIAA Western Division basketball match-up Saturday evening and stole a 67-63 victory inside Emery Gymnasium.

The Falcons entered the game ranked eighth in the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Region. But the Broncos surprised the Falcons, who lost their third straight game and their first to a Western Division opponent. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for Fayetteville State.

Junior guard Andy Gebru was the Broncos leading scorer with 18 points, along with four rebounds and three assists. Senior guard Phillippe Harris added 16 points and six rebounds. The duo combined for 23 first-half points to give the Broncos a 35-29 lead at halftime.

Late into the second half, forward Robert Shuler hit a jumper that put the Falcons up 59-58 with 4:32 remaining. FSU regained the lead on jumper from freshman forward Derek Holmes with 3:21 remaining and never trailed again.

Holmes provided another solid performance with 11 points and seven rebounds. The freshman sensation was 5-of-6 from the field in the victory and currently has the highest field goal percentage in the conference (.635).

St. Augustine scored a lay-up with six seconds left to pull their deficit to 66-63, but Harris was fouled and nailed a free throw to seal the win for the Broncos.

The Falcons fall to 14-6 overall and 10-4 in the CIAA; while FSU improves to 10-12 for the season and 6-8 in the conference.

The Broncos return home to face the Shaw University Bears on Valentine's Day (Feb. 14th). Tip-off in the Capel Arena is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
