Box Score

Fayetteville, NC - The Fayetteville State University men's basketball team dropped a CIAA match-up at home, 75-63 to the Elizabeth City State University Vikings Thursday night in Capel Arena.

Guard Anthony Hilliard (Fayetteville, NC) led the way for the Vikings with a game-high 26 points and 15 rebounds.

Senior guard Phillippe Harris led the Broncos with 15 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Junior guard Andy Gebru added 13 points and seven rebounds. Senior guard Jamel Austin rounded out the top scorers for FSU with 12 points, four rebounds and four assists.

The Broncos came out of the gate hot, nailing two three-pointers to take an early 6-0 lead. ECSU took an early timeout to regroup. The Vikings must have received the proper instructions, because they responded with a 10-2 scoring run and never looked back.

Vikings went into halftime up 30-22 and came out in the second half still on the attack. ECSU outscored Fayetteville State in the paint (32-18), on fast break opportunities (24-14), and in second chance points (22-8). Elizabeth City eventually expanded their lead to 18 points (largest of the game) with less than seven minutes remaining.

Fayetteville State would draw closer, but not close enough to escape defeat. With the victory, Elizabeth City State improves to 14-4 overall and 8-4 in the CIAA. The Broncos fall to 9-11 overall and 4-7 in the conference.

FSU returns to action Saturday, February 2nd when they take on Bowie State University for a 7:30 pm start in Capel Arena.
