Bluefield, WV - The Fayetteville State University men's basketball team improve their winning streak to three games with a 79-76 road victory over Bluefield State College Monday evening inside Ned Shott Gymnasium. FSU improves to 6-1 overall, while the Big Blues fall to 1-6 in the standings.
The first half was tightly contested with the Broncos up at halftime 40-38. Coach Sam Hanger welcomed back his senior All-CIAA preseason guard Andy Gebru. Gebru had 12 points and two steals off 5-of-14 shooting in his first game this season. Fayetteville State had two others finish with double digit point totals.
Junior guard Davon Hood exploded with a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds (seven defensive). Hood shot 9-of-14 from the floor (64.2%) and 4-of-5 from the free throw line (80%). Junior forward Jason Thompson chipped in 15 points and eight boards.
FSU forced Bluefield to commit 18 turnovers and scored 23 points off those turnovers. The Broncos lead by as much as 16 in the contest. BSC only received scores from their starters, while Fayetteville State got 25 points from their reserves.
Bluefield guard Ramon Almon had a game-high 31 points, shooting 11-of-18 from the field. Brian Tingle produced 17 points and nine rebounds for BSC.
Fayetteville State returns to action Wednesday, December 17th when they host Wingate University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm inside Capel Arena.
