Hampton, VA - The Fayetteville State University women's volleyball team went undefeated against three opponents in the quarterfinals of the 2008 CIAA Volleyball Tournament on Friday, November 7th from inside the Boo Williams Sportsplex.

In their first match of the day, FSU swept Virginia Union University in three straight sets 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-19). As a team, the Lady Broncos produced 38 kills and 13 service aces compared to 22 kills and five services aces for Virginia Union. Junior middle blocker and 2008 CIAA Player of the Year Chekimbrell Jefferson led the attack with 16 kills, four service aces, and three digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Meeks had 11 kills, junior utility Cailee Huffman contributed with 10 digs, and sophomore setter Achari Mainor dished out 25 assists in the win over the Lady Panthers.

Fayetteville State squared off against Livingstone College in their second contest. FSU failed to drop a set again and swept the Lady Blue Bears 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-19). Jefferson had 17 kills with a .344 hitting percentage in the victory. Meeks pitched in nine kills, senior outside hitter Shatia Gidrey had 12 digs on the defensive side, and Mainor found her teammates for a match-high 33 assists.

The Lady Broncos matched up with Bowie State University in their final contest of evening. FSU took care of business as usual by winning the first two sets; 25-17, 25-14. Bowie State rebounded with a strong offensive attack in the third set. In the third, the Lady Bulldogs out performed FSU producing 15 kills with a .250 hitting percentage.

The Lady Broncos fell 22-25 in the third, but eventually won the match in the fourth 25-17. Jefferson and Meeks each had 13 kills in the victory over BSU. Huffman had a team-high 11 digs while Gidrey and Meeks followed close behind with 10 digs apiece. Mainor distributed 33 of the team's 43 assists.

Bowie State had equally impressive numbers in the four set match. Bethany Sloat had 13 kills and 9 digs, Jasmine McNair contributed with 12 kills and 11 digs, and Tamira Conner-Rogers pitched in a double-double of 11 kills and digs. Setter Itumeleng Shadreck also dished out 33 assists in the match.

FSU will return to the Boo Williams Sportsplex on Saturday, November 8th to face the No. 2 seed from Pool B (Saint Augustine's College). The match against the Lady Falcons is scheduled to take place at 7:00 pm with the winner advancing to the championship match on Sunday.
