Charlotte, NC- Three Lady Broncos were announced to the 2008-09 Pre-season All-CIAA Team at the Annual Basketball Press Conference held at the Charlotte Convention Center Thursday afternoon.
The Fayetteville State Lady Broncos were picked to finish in fourth place in the CIAA Western Division as voted by the CIAA Women's Basketball Coaches Association. The Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs were picked to finish atop the Eastern Division while Johnson C. Smith University was picked to finish first in the CIAA Western Division.
Juniors Chelsea Jeter and L' Oreal Price, along with sophomore Erica Gilley were all 2008-09 Pre-season CIAA Women's Basketball selections. Jeter, a 5-10 forward, returns to the Lady Broncos after sitting out the 2007-08 season with an injury. Prior to the injury, Jeter was the team's leading scorer during the 2006-07 season, averaging 12.3 points per game.
Price transferred to Fayetteville State last season from UNC-Pembroke. The 5-6, guard stepped in and started 26 of the 29 games last season, averaging 9.2 ppg and 5.6 rebounds per contest.
Gilley had the team's highest field goal shooting percentage (.512) in her first season with the Lady Broncos. As a reserve, the 5-11, former CIAA Rookie of the Week averaged 8.1 ppg last season and was the team's second leading rebounder (5.7 rpg).
Fayetteville State finished the 2007-08 season 17-12 overall, 12-6 in the CIAA and 4-4 in the Western Division. Despite the fourth place divisional finish, the Lady Broncos advanced to the semi-finals in the 2008 CIAA Tournament.
