LADY BRONCOS SMASH JCSU IN BRAYBOY

Charlotte, NC - The Lady Broncos Volleyball team swept Johnson C. Smith University 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-3) in their last road regular season Tuesday evening inside Brayboy Gymnasium. The victory boosts Fayetteville State to 19-15 in the overall standings and 13-1 in the CIAA.

JCSU jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in set one, but Fayetteville State rallied and won the first set 25-13. The Lady Broncos pulled away late in the second set to win 25-18. FSU really took care of business in the final set, opening up with a 5-0 lead forcing a JCSU timeout. The timeout did not phase the Lady Broncos' production as senior outside hitter Shatia Gidrey rattled off 13 straight points before the Lady Golden Bulls would score their first one. The set ended by a score of 25-3.

Fayetteville State was led by sophomore outside hitter Samantha Meeks and junior middle blocker Chekimbrell Jefferson, who combined for 24 kills (14 and 10 respectively). Sophomore setter Achari Mainor dished out a match-high 34 assists.

Ashley Young-Jones led the JCSU offensive attack with four kills while Alexis Webb dished out six assists. Young-Jones also had six digs in a losing effort. Johnson C. Smith falls to 8-15 overall this season and 4-7 in the CIAA.

The Lady Broncos return home for their last regular season match against Chowan University on Thursday, October 30th. This match will be Senior Night for two special Lady Broncos. Heather Chance and Shatia Gidrey will be recognized for their contributions to the FSU volleyball program.

Chance and Gidrey were apart of the 2007 CIAA Championship team and both named to the 2008 All-CIAA Pre-season team. The first serve is set to take place at 6:00 pm from Felton J. Capel Arena.
