FSU RESULTS IN THE 2008 CIAA XC CHAMPIONSHIP

Cary, NC - The Fayetteville State University women's cross country team finished in sixth place and the men's team finished in ninth at the 2008 CIAA Cross Country Championship Thursday morning at the SAS Soccer Park.

The women ran a 5k race Thursday morning. On the team leader board, Saint Augustine's College and Virginia State University tied for first place with a team score of 39. This is the first time in the conference there has been a tie for first place. Ten schools and 60 student-athletes participated in the women's portion of the event.

On the women's individual charts, VSU's Jenna Arnold was the top finisher with a time of 19.59.9. The Lady Broncos concluded the meet with a team score of 139 (6th place). Junior Tressa Aughburns was the 23rd person to cross the finish line and first to finish for FSU with a time of 23.41.1.

On the men's side, an 8k race took place. The Trojans of Virginia State also took the title in the men's race with a team score of 42. Bowie State was second with 58 points. The Broncos were ninth with 223 points. Ten schools and 58 student-athletes took part in the men's portion of the event.

Individually, St. Augustine's Johnny Shuping took the gold medal with a time of 24.23.4. Virginia Union's Geoffrey Langat was second with a time of 26.13.5. FSU senior Rolland Gallop led the Bronco contingent with a 34th place finish and a time of 31.48.5.


Gallop edged out sophomore teammate James Bailey, who finished 37th with a time of 33.30.9. The women's team had individual finishes of 23rd, 31st, 33rd, 42nd, and 50th. The men's individual finishes were 34th, 37th, 45th, 53rd, and 54th.
