Salisbury, NC - The Fayetteville State University volleyball team rallied to a 3-1 victory (22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-22) over Livingstone College inside William J. Trent Gymnasium Monday evening in CIAA action. The Lady Broncos improve to 16-15 overall and 10-1 in the conference. Livingstone falls to 12-8 overall and 7-3 in the CIAA.
Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Meeks racked up 11 kills and 15 digs with a team-high .308 hitting percentage. Junior middle blocker Chekimbrell Jefferson had an all-around performance with a game-high 14 kills, eight digs, and five blocks (4 solo, 1 assist).
Livingstone managed to take the first set 25-22. But FSU wiped out the Lady Blue Bears in the next three sets to pick up the season sweep. Davia Moss and Tia Charlow added 13 kills and 11 kills, respectively, for Livingstone. Shannon Allen dished 31 assists in a losing effort.
Senior middle blocker Heather Chance contributed with 10 kills and nine digs. Sophomore setter Achari Mainor recorded 39 assists and nine digs in the win for FSU.
"Once again we had a slow start in game one; we need to work on starting matches strong," Fayetteville State Head Coach Elorine Hill says. "We were able to bounce back and capture the next three games, so that was a positive factor today."
The Lady Broncos return to action Wednesday, October 15th when they host Shaw University in Seabrook Recreation Center. The match is set begin at 6:00 pm.
