Hampton, VA - Fayetteville State University's Head Women's Basketball Coach Eric Tucker and freshman center Tiffany Haywood have been recognized by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) for their efforts and performance for the week ending January 27, 2008.
Haywood received CIAA Women's Rookie of the Week honors for her performance during a three-game stretch this week. The 5'9, freshman center posted a career-high 25 points to help elevate the Lady Broncos past Shaw University in a tough conference match-up on the road. Haywood, a native of Fayetteville, NC, has averaged 15.3 points per game for Fayetteville State in the last three contests and has recently been moved into the starting line-up.
The Lady Broncos' seasoned and charismatic leader, Coach Eric Tucker, was honored as the CIAA Women's Coach of the Week for the first time this season. Coach Tucker has faced some difficult challenges in his 15th season as the Lady Broncos head coach. Injuries have plagued the team this year (losing Chelsea Jeter, Antoinette Smith, and Tenisha McArthur); however Coach Tucker currently has Fayetteville State on a five game winning streak, including four road wins.
FSU is currently 12-7 overall, 9-2 in the CIAA, and 2-1 in the Western Division. The Lady Broncos will attempt to extend their winning streak and move further up in the standings when they face the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University on Thursday, January 31st. The contest will take place inside Capel Arena and tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
