Box Score

Fayetteville, NC - Inside Capel Arena Thursday evening, the Broncos had an offensive explosion that guided them past the visiting Trojans of Virginia State University 91-82 in men's basketball action.

Senior guard Phillippe Harris and junior guard Andy Gebru scored double figures in the first half to elevate the Broncos to a 52-26 halftime advantage over VSU. Harris had 14 points and seven rebounds, while Gebru scored 13 points, including three three-pointers as the Trojans struggled to find their offense.

Virginia State shot 33.3 percent (10-of-30) compared to the Broncos 52.6 percent (20-of-38) from the field in the opening half.

The Trojans came out the second half and played pressure defense. With a little over five minutes into the second period, Virginia State went on a 15-2 run to bring the score to 54-41.

Forward Leon Willis scored a lay-up with 6:12 left on the clock to bring the score to 72-65 and draw VSU a little closer. But that's as close as the Trojans would come to the Broncos, before losing 91-82.

Five FSU players finished with double-digit point totals. Harris led the way with 25 points and seven rebounds, with Gebru closely following with 21 points and six rebounds. Sophomore forward Davon Hood accounted for 13 points and nine rebounds, while freshman forward Derek Holmes pitched in 12 points and nine rebounds; both nearing a double-double.
