PEMBROKE TOPS FSU IN FOUR GAMES

Pembroke, NC - Fayetteville State University Sports Information Director made the Lady Broncos aware of something as they departed FSU for a match with UNC - Pembroke. He told the Lady Broncos that their coach Elorine Hill has been inducted as a member of the 2007 Class of Saint Augustine's College Hall of Fame. The information was given as an added incentive against the Lady Braves. Perhaps the information was dispursed too late for the Lady Broncos who were defeated by Pembroke's Lady Braves three games to one (30-13, 30-12, 29-31, 30-24).

In the second game, the Lady Braves scored 11 unearned points to take an 11-3 lead before Coach Hill called a time out. The time out only rested Pembroke players as they held the Lady Broncos to nine points and went on to win the second game of the match 30-12.

The third game saw the Lady Broncos come alive behind Cassandra Peterson and Chekimbrell Jefferson hitting and blocking, and won their first game of the evening 31-29. The Lady broncos entered the fourth game, taking and early four point 6-2 lead. The Lady Broncos scored four unanswered point to tie the score and went ahead 15-13. The scored several times before Pembroke took the lead 26-22.

Highlights for the Lady Broncos was the performances of Peterson with 10 kills, Jefferson who had 8 kills, four total blocks and four service aces, Sha'Quana Veney with 20 digs and Achari Mainor setting up her teammates with 28 assists.

The Lady Broncos opens their conference schedule Friday, September 7 at Capel Arena against Saint Augustine's College at 6:00 p.m.
