FAYETTEVILLE STATE UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES FOOTBALL STAFF HIRING

Fayetteville, NC - Fayetteville State University's head Football coach Kenny Phillips has announced the hiring of Richard (Dick) Portee as a member of the Bronco's football coaching staff. The announcement comes after an extensive search for the proper candidate who can help elevate the program to the next level and help develop young men for careers after graduating.

Portee, who will coordinate the Broncos' running backs and serve as assistant head coach, was an assistant running back coach at North Carolina State University during the 2000-2007 seasons. Portee is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University receiving his B.S. in Health and Physical in 1965 and his Masters in Health and Physical Education from Illinois State University in 1971.

Portee began his collegiate coaching career as a defensive backfield and offensive back coach at Illinois State University from 1969-1977. From 1977-1982, he served as recruiting coordinator and defensive backfield coach at Cornell University. He spent time at the University of Maryland as an assistant coach, coaching outside linebackers and wide receivers from 1982-1990. He spent a stint with the Cleveland Browns as an assistant, coaching running backs from 1999-2000. His career also includes serving as an assistant athletic director at Illinois State University (1969-1977). Not only did his duties include coaching, he has served as film exchange coordinator and as an educator. Before joining the collegiate ranks, Portee coach at Eisenhower High School in Illinois.
