BRONCOS BLAST BLUEFIELD

Fayetteville, NC - The Broncos of Fayetteville State University dominated Bluefield State College for a 92-74 win Friday evening inside Capel Arena.

The game began with Bluefield shooting free throws for a team technical foul on Fayetteville State due to a home scorer's table infraction. The Blues would make one of the two free throws attempted to take their only lead on the contest. Junior guard Andy Gebru and senior guard Phillippe Harris both would come down the floor and hit three-pointers for the Broncos. By the 17:50 of the first period, FSU had jumped out to an 8-1 lead.

A lay-up by junior center Brandon Green pushed the Broncos' lead to 22 with less than five minutes remaining before halftime. Green established himself as an inside presence throughout the first half scoring nine points and grabbing two rebounds in seven minutes of play.

Bluefield made five threes in their last six offensive possessions before halftime. At the half, FSU was up 45-32 and as a team shot 71 percent (5-of-7) from the free throw line, 43 percent (18-of-41) from the field, and scored 19 points off 12 Bluefield turnovers.

FSU came out in the second half on another offensive attack. By the 13:04 mark, the Broncos were up 72-41; their largest advantage of the game. The Blues went on a 23-5 scoring run to cut the Broncos' lead to 13, but the deficit would not be reduced any further. Fayetteville State outscored Bluefield in the paint 50-to-28, 29-to-12 in points off turnovers, and 22-to-8 in second chance points.

The Broncos had four players finish with double digit point totals led by senior guard Jamel Austin with 19 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Gebru concluded the contest with 18 points, four rebounds, five assists, and steals. Green and sophomore forward Larry Ross both contributed 11 points to the Fayetteville State victory.

This is the third consecutive win for the Broncos, who improve to 3-3 overall for the season. Their next competition will take place Saturday, December 15th inside Cuddy Arena against the Bulldogs of Wingate University at 7:30pm.
