BRONCOS LOSE ON THE ROAD TO VIRGINIA STATE

Ettrick, VA - The Broncos suffered an 85-78 loss Tuesday, November 27th against the Trojans of Virginia State University inside Daniel Gymnasium.

VSU built a first half advantage with quality three-point shooting. The Trojans shot 61.5% (8-13) from behind the arc; including four three's made by Jamar Fleming. Fleming had 17 first half points and finished with a VSU team-high 22.

Most of Fayetteville State's scoring came from their veteran players. Junior guard Andy Gebru led the way in the opening half with 10 points. Seniors Jamel Austin and Phillippe Harris both dropped 8 points to keep the Broncos in contention going into halftime.

The Broncos were down 42-35 entering the second period, and the three-headed monster of Gebru, Austin, and Harris came out firing. The trio accounted for 40 of the Broncos' 43 second half points; including three 3-pointers from Austin, nine points from Harris, and Gebru attempting to carry the team to the finish with 22 points in the final half.

Despite the game-high 32 point effort from Gebru, the Broncos would fall short down the stretch. Austin and Harris both finished with 17 points and 5 rebounds; while the other Broncos could collectively only produce 12 team points.

Trey Mines was a key contributor for the Trojans, turning in a 16 point, 5 rebound, 5 assist night for VSU.

Fayetteville State falls to 0-2 for the season and Virginia State improves to 2-3 with the conference victory. The Broncos get right back on the road to travel to Wingate University for the OrthoCarolina Classic. They will face St. Edwards University on November 30th and Caldwell College on December 1st.
