FSU FALLS IN NCAA DIVISION II ATLANTIC REGION

California, PA - Senior Katie Benick posted a match-high 18 kills as top seeded California (PA) Vulcans defeated eighth seeded Fayetteville State University 3-0 (30-13, 30-14, 30-26) in the quarter final of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Women's Volleyball Tournament at Hamer Hall on the campus of California University.

Fayetteville State University, appearing in their first-ever NCAA volleyball tournament, was led by CIAA Player of the Year sophomore Chekimbrell Jefferson (Laurel Hill, NC) who had a team-high 11 kills, a solo block, a block assist and four digs. Freshman Achari Mainor (Antioch, CA) served up 24 assists, one of the Broncos' service aces and five digs. Defensively, Sha'Quana Veney (Richmond, VA), recorded 13 of Fayetteville State's 50 digs.

Freshman Samantha Meeks (Laurinburg, NC) recorded six kills, making her the second Lady Broncos this season to record 300 kills in a single season. The Lady Broncos closed the 2007 season with a 26-12 record, the best in the volleyball program history.
