Charlotte, NC - The Fayetteville State University Lady Broncos swept Bowie State University in three games (30-21, 30-18 30-27) to win the 2007 CIAA Volleyball Championship Saturday evening at the Grady Cole Center.

It has been almost a decade since the Lady Broncos won the CIAA Championship; the win marks third volleyball title in Fayetteville State history (1996, 1998). The team finishes with its best overall record (26-11) since the 1996 season when the Lady Broncos finished 22-14 and captured their first CIAA crown.

Sophomore, middle blocker Chekimbrell Jefferson was selected to the all-tournament team and named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Jefferson, also this season's CIAA Player of the Year, had 18 kills and three blocks in the championship game against the Lady Bulldogs. Freshman setter Achari Mainor pitched in 36 assists and senior libero Sha'Quana Veney contributed with 17 digs.

This has been a milestone year for Coach Elorine Hill and the Lady Broncos. Seven FSU players were selected to the CIAA All-Conference team ( Chekimbrell Jefferson, Achari Mainor, Samantha Meeks, Sha'Quana Veney, Shatia Gidrey, Heather Chance, and Cassandra Peterson). Jefferson set the new school single season and career record for kills, Mainor set the single season record for assists, and Coach Hill earned her 300th win along with winning the championship.

FSU will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs beginning either November 15-17th or 16-18th.
