LADY BRONCOS BACK ON TRACK

Jan. 27, 2007

Box Score

The Lady Broncos traveled to Lawrenceville, VA Saturday looking for a victory against St. Paul's Lady Tigers and they found what they were looking for, outscoring St. Paul's 80-67.

Fayetteville State started off at a slow pace, only scoring 11 points in the opening 10 minutes. Junior, guard Deana Wooten came off the bench and provided some instance offense. Wooten had a flawless shooting percentage in the first half (4 of 4), all her shots were behind the 3-point line.

In the second half, the Lady Tigers rallied behind freshman Gabrielle Johnson to tie the game at 49-49 with 11:32 remaining in the game. Johnson was St. Paul's leading scorer and rebounder with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Despite Johnson's efforts, team turnovers and solid, consistent play from junior Tenisha McArthur were too much for St. Paul's to overcome.

The Lady Tigers committed 37 turnovers to FSU's 26. Fayetteville State had four starters finish with double figures in points, led by McArthur. McArthur finished with a game-high 12 rebounds and tied the game-high of 21 points.

With the win, the Lady Broncos improve to 13-6 overall and 9-3 in the CIAA. The Lady Tigers move to 5-12 overall and 2-8 in the CIAA. Next, the Lady Broncos hit the road again to take on Elizabeth City State University, February 1, 2007 at 5:30 pm.
