Despite Andy Gebru scoring the Broncos first 10 points and Fayetteville State leading at the half 36-28, St. Paul's comes away with the victory, 89-77.
The Broncos began the second half in a rhythm, going on a 12-2 run to take a 42-30 lead with 17:41 remaining in the game. But the Tigers of St. Paul's would not be denied at home as they mounted a second half rally and tied the score 66-66 off a Davon West three pointer. A 7-3 run by the Tigers gave them a 76-71 advantage at the 4:09 mark. West was sent to the free throw line on two separate occasions, where he converted on all four charity shots. Two baskets by Hassan Robinson put the game on ice for the Tigers. Robinson was St. Paul's leading scorer with a game-high 27 points.
Gebru was the Broncos' leading scorer with 26 points. The loss drops Fayetteville State's record to 12-7 overall and 7-5 in the CIAA. The Broncos will travel to Elizabeth City to take on their next opponent, Elizabeth City State University. The game will take place February 1, 2007 at 7:30 pm.
