The Broncos displayed great confident on the offensive side to lead Fayetteville State University to a 78-68 victory over the visiting Blue Bears of Livingstone College.
Livingstone trailed by only two points (36-34) at the half but the Broncos were able to create some distance in the second half. The Blue Bears made 12 of the 31 field goals attempted in the second half (38.7 percent) and only made one of its seven 3-point attempts (14.3 percent). Despite FSU being out-rebounded 37 to 24; Livingstone's 18 turnovers allowed the Broncos to get into transition and score points down the final stretch.
Four FSU players scored in double figures with Andy Gebru leading all scorers with 17 points. Phillippe' Harris had second team-high with 14 points; Harris also had 5 rebounds and three steals. Jamel Austin and Zeke Mayes added 12 and 10 points respectively while Mayes also pulled down six rebounds.
Livingstone was paced by Michael Duncan who contributed 16 points and six rebounds. The Blue Bears only had one other player in double figures, Christopher Worley who added 15 points.
The Broncos improve to 10-7 overall, 6-4 in the CIAA, and 3-0 in their division. Livingstone drops to 4-10 in the overall standings and 2-7 in the CIAA. The Broncos will hit the road to face Shaw University, Tuesday, January 25, 2007. Game time will be at 7:30 p.m.
