Box Score
Sophomore guard Andy Gebru scored 19 points as Fayetteville State University fought for an 82-73 win over CIAA opponent Elizabeth City State University on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at the Capel Arena.
Offensively the two teams matched up adequately. Junior forward Billy McDade ignited a spark for the Broncos in the 1st half. McDade came off the bench and scored 10 points including two big three-pointers, which helped the Broncos go into halftime with a 45-36 lead. Vikings' starting forward C.J. Pigford found his rhythm early, scoring 10 of ESCU's 36 first half points. Pigford would eventually foul out late in the second half, finishing the game as the Vikings' leading scorer with 23 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
FSU established a post presence with senior forward Zeke Mayes. Mayes was the Broncos' second leading scorer with 14 points and leading rebounder with seven. Fayetteville State had four players finish the game with double figures in points and the team shot 66.7% from the free throw line (12-18)
The Broncos get their third straight victory and seem to be gaining momentum as we move closer to the CIAA tournament. Fayetteville State improves to 9-7 overall and 5-4 in the CIAA, while ECSU falls to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in the CIAA.
The Broncos will face Livingstone College at the Capel Arena on Tuesday, January 23rd at 7:30pm.
