Fayetteville State University did not have enough offensive fire power to get their first win of the new year as the Trojans of Virginia State University handed the Broncos a 71-57 defeat at Capel Arena. The Trojans jumped to an early seven point lead less than five minutes into the contest and never looked back as they took a 18-point cushion into the locker room at halftime, leading 38-28. Second half action saw VSU extending their lead to 22 points before FSU could shave the deficit to 14-points with 1:33 left in the contest. Andy Gebru and Mike Moses led FSU scorers with 10 points. VSU was led by three players, all in double-figures. Leading VSU in scoring were Avis Wyatt, 17 Michael Askew, 16 and Trey Menes with 10-points. The loss dropped FSU to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the CIAA while VSU improved to 8-2 and remained undefeated in conference action at 3-0.
