Adrian Ferguson is an experienced professional with 30 years in athletics media relations and creative design. Currently, he serves as the assistant athletic director for media relations and sports communications. Ferguson has demonstrated expertise in managing media operations, website administration, social media content development, and video production. His leadership skills are evident through his extensive career in sports communications and media relations, showcasing his strategic thinking and organizational abilities.

Under Ferguson’s direction, Fayetteville State University Athletics has set the standard for the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) with its broadcasting efforts. The university’s broadcasts of football, volleyball, and basketball have become models as the CIAA works to enhance its media rights and presence in the digital landscape. The university utilizes video boards in the football stadium and arena. Additional digital assets are now throughout the Felton J. Capel Arena. The Broncos’ digital footprint has been increasing through its social media platforms.

Ferguson’s career began at Livingstone College, where he served as the sports information director and managed media relations, along with overseeing game-day publications. He also held the position of Head Track & Field Coach, managing both the men’s and women’s cross country and track & field programs.

At Winston-Salem State University, Ferguson continued as the sports information director, where he coordinated athletic functions, promotions, and marketing for sponsored events. He also served as the press room coordinator for the CIAA Basketball Tournament. During his time at Fayetteville State University, he worked as the sports information director and game operations manager, managing media relations and game-day operations. In 2011, Ferguson integrated video and broadcast production into the university’s sports communications with the addition a video jumbotron, significantly enhancing the quality and reach of game-day coverage.

Ferguson’s strategic communication skills were further developed at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association in Charlotte, NC, where he served as associate commissioner of strategic communication. In this role, he oversaw media operations at 16 championship events, managed TheCIAA.com website, and developed sport-specific content for social media platforms.

With a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Livingstone College, Ferguson’s leadership is characterized by his strategic vision, innovative approach, and ability to manage and coordinate diverse teams and projects, making him an asset in the field of sports communications. 

He has served several stints as president of the CIAA Sports Information Directors Association and has been a member of CoSIDA, BCSIDA, the CIAA Management Council and Track & Field Coaches Association; along with serving NCAA Division II Men’s Golf RAC.

Ferguson is a three-time recipient of the John Holley CIAA Sports Information Director of the Year Award and was inducted into the Livingstone College Hall of Fame in 2010 for his achievements as a student-athlete, coach, and administrator. Fayetteville State University once honored him as the Second Runner-up Staff Member of the Year.
