Emily Thompson brings a dynamic blend of clinical expertise, athletic experience, and a deep commitment to student-athlete wellness to her new role as Assistant Athletic Trainer at Fayetteville State University. Prior to joining FSU, Emily served as the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Shaw University, where she provided comprehensive medical coverage for 13 NCAA Division II teams. Her responsibilities included injury evaluations, rehabilitation program development, and the implementation of injury prevention strategies.
Emily holds both a Master of Science in Athletic Training and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Pacific University, where she also competed as a member of the NCAA Division III women’s soccer team. Her time as a collegiate athlete instilled in her a strong work ethic, a passion for sports medicine, and a team-first mentality that continues to shape her professional approach.
Throughout her career, Emily has demonstrated a proactive commitment to advancing her clinical skills. She has completed specialized training in the Mulligan Concept for the lower quadrant and is certified in Foundations in Dry Needling for Orthopedic Rehab and Sport Performance. She is also preparing to earn her CSCS certification and Kinesio Taping credentials to further enhance her ability to support athletic performance and recovery.
Emily’s diverse clinical background includes rotations at institutions ranging from high schools to Division I universities, as well as work with Special Olympics Oregon and emergency medical exposure through Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue. These experiences have equipped her with a broad perspective on patient care and the ability to adapt to a wide range of athletic and medical environments.
At Fayetteville State University, Emily is excited to contribute her knowledge, energy, and dedication to the health and success of Bronco student-athletes. Her focus on evidence-based care, interprofessional collaboration, and athlete education makes her a valuable asset to the FSU athletic department.
